4:30-5:45pm      Iyengar Yoga (All Levels) w/Ginny

BKS Iyengar brought yoga to the west in the 60s and 70s.  Iyengar’s emphasis on precise postural alignment provides opportunities and challenges for students of all fitness levels - all are welcome. Why the focus on props and alignment? Students tend to stretch from their more flexible areas and rely on their better-developed muscles for strength, thus reinforcing postural habits. Through props and attention to proper alignment, Iyengar Yoga encourages weak parts to strengthen and stiff areas to release, thus awakening and realigning the whole body. An added benefit of an emphasis on correct anatomical alignment can be the diminishing of aches/pains and improved posture. As the body moves into better alignment, less muscular effort is required and body and mind relaxation naturally increases.

Through regular practice, students develop self-awareness, intelligent evaluation, and profound inward reflection. Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers are held to an unusually rigorous standard, earning their certification only after years of training and evaluation. No two classes are ever exactly the same. The variation in sequencing  is influenced by the level and condition of the student, time of day, time of year, and other factors.
